How to judge the workmanship of the leaf spring support when choosing a tractor for cross-border transportation

Cross border long-distance transportation has complex road conditions, including bumps, heavy loads, and continuous working conditions. The leaf spring support of the tractor is the core load-bearing component for bearing and shock absorption, directly determining the stability of the chassis and the durability of the entire vehicle. Many overseas customers only consider the engine, transmission, and rear axle configuration when choosing a car, ignoring the differences in the workmanship of the leaf spring support, resulting in problems such as support cracking, deformation, welding failure, and abnormal noise shortly after the new car is put into operation. In fact, by examining the appearance, materials, welding, and structural details, one can quickly distinguish the quality of the support's workmanship and avoid purchasing a reduced model.
Firstly, let's take a look at the overall material and casting and forging process. High quality leaf spring supports are made of integral cast steel or thickened forging, with high overall density, thick texture, and resistance to deformation. They are evenly stressed and have no weak points. Poor quality bearings are mostly spliced and welded, and formed by stamping thin steel plates. They have a light weight and thin material, and are prone to sand holes and air pockets inside. They are also prone to twisting and cracking after heavy loads and bumps. The thickness of the entity can be visually compared with the naked eye. High quality supports are full and thick, while low-end products have many hollow holes and insufficient wall thickness.
Focus on checking the welding process details. Regular factory supports have uniform and full weld seams, neat fish scale patterns, no virtual welding, no slag inclusion, natural transition of weld legs, and strong overall integrity. Small factories commonly encounter problems such as uneven weld seam width, multiple porosity, weld bead accumulation, and local welding leakage when reducing the size of their products. Under long-term bumps and vibrations, the virtual welding position will crack first, resulting in abnormal chassis noise and loose supports, ultimately leading to the scrapping of the assembly and seriously affecting cross-border driving safety.
Check the contact surface and assembly accuracy. High quality support pads are flat, smooth, without burrs or deformation. The contact surface of the plate spring is flat and regular, with even assembly gaps. There is no abnormal noise or offset force during vehicle operation. Poorly crafted supports have problems such as skewed surface, unevenness, and inaccurate positioning. After assembly, the plate spring is subjected to force displacement, and long-term operation can cause joint failures such as steel plate wear, excessive local stress on the main beam, and abnormal tire wear.
Observe chamfer design and anti-corrosion treatment. The edges and corners of high-quality supports are chamfered and polished to avoid stress concentration and increase fatigue strength; Factory sandblasting for rust removal, uniform application of anti-corrosion primer, corrosion resistance, suitable for long-term sea transportation and overseas rainy and salt spray conditions. Poor quality bearings are mostly made of right angle blanks without polishing, with obvious stress concentration and easy tearing from the corners. They are also prone to peeling off due to rough paint, and have a fast rusting and short service life in the later stage.
In summary, although the leaf spring support is a small chassis component, it is the core durability key of heavy-duty tractor. When selecting a car, it is important to verify the material and process, weld quality, assembly accuracy, and anti-corrosion details to quickly distinguish the quality of workmanship. High quality bearings can effectively reduce the risk of cracking and deformation caused by cross-border long-distance bumps, improve the stability of the vehicle chassis, and reduce the high-frequency maintenance costs and downtime losses of overseas fleets.
