Working in areas with high dust concentration such as mining areas, sand and gravel fields, and deserts, the truck intake system has been subjected to a large amount of sand and dust invasion for a long time. The intake system is the core breathing channel of the engine. If the protection is not in place, small dust will directly enter the cylinder, causing cylinder wall strain, piston wear, seal degradation, power reduction, fuel consumption increase and other problems. In severe cases, it can lead to early engine overhaul. Many overseas fleets still adhere to the maintenance standards of ordinary road conditions, resulting in frequent air filter failures and accelerated engine wear. Therefore, dedicated intake system maintenance methods must be adopted for high dust conditions.
In high dust environments, the inspection and replacement cycle of air filters must be shortened, and conventional mileage standards cannot be blindly applied. Ordinary transport vehicles can be maintained according to a fixed mileage, but mining areas have high levels of dust and air impurities, and the speed of air filter blockage is much higher than normal working conditions. The fleet needs to increase the frequency of daily inspections and regularly check the air filter housing and intake alarm status. Once heavy dust is found on the filter element, the air intake resistance increases, or the safety filter element accumulates dust, it indicates that the filter has failed and needs to be replaced immediately. Long term blowing and reuse are not allowed. Repeated blowing can damage the precision micropores of the filter paper, reduce filtration accuracy, and cause sand and dust to infiltrate the engine.
Standardize the disassembly and cleaning process of air filters to eliminate loopholes in manual maintenance. Before disassembling the air filter, it is necessary to clean the external floating dust of the assembly to prevent dust from directly falling into the intake duct after opening the cover. After removing the main filter element, check the integrity of the filter paper. If there is any damage, blackening, or oil stains, they must be replaced directly. The interior of the shell is cleaned by dry wiping, and high-pressure air blowing and water flushing of pipelines are strictly prohibited to avoid residual impurities in the airway. During installation, it is important to check whether the sealing gasket is aging or deformed, whether the lock buckle is tightly pressed in place, to ensure complete sealing of the assembly and prevent dust from entering the gaps.
Regularly inspect the entire intake pipeline and identify hidden dust hazards. The intake rubber hose, corrugated hose, and clamp of high dust operation vehicles are prone to aging and loosening. Once the pipeline cracks or the clamp becomes loose, sand and dust will directly bypass the filter element and enter the engine, causing serious wear and tear. Daily maintenance requires step-by-step inspection of pipeline integrity and timely replacement of aging and damaged parts. For vehicles engaged in long-term high dust operations, it is recommended to install a pre filter device to filter large particles of sand and dust in advance, reduce the working pressure of the main air filter, and effectively extend the service life of the intake system.
Develop good driving habits and reduce intake load. Try to keep the dusty road as far away as possible from the preceding vehicle to avoid continuous inhalation of thick dust; Try to avoid sand and gravel piles and dusty areas when parking to reduce the speed of dust accumulation in the filter element. During the driving process, if there is a decrease in power or an air intake alarm, it is necessary to stop the vehicle for inspection in a timely manner to prevent the vehicle from operating with any problems.
The maintenance of the intake system is of utmost importance for vehicles used in high dust mining areas. The overseas working environment is harsh and the maintenance cost is high. Through refined and high-frequency intake system maintenance, it can effectively isolate sand and dust from entering the engine, stabilize power performance, significantly reduce engine failure rates and overhaul costs, and ensure long-term stable vehicle operation.
