The advantages of high horsepower models are beyond doubt, as their strong power can easily handle mountain climbing, heavy-duty starting, and long-distance trunk transportation, improving construction and transportation efficiency. But the key to many customers stepping into the pit is that the combination of high-end power and low-end chassis is the most common "gimmick model" for manufacturers. The same model increases the horsepower parameters, but reduces the thickness of the main beam, weakens the bearing capacity of the axle, simplifies suspension reinforcement, and uses ordinary welding technology. Although the parameters may seem impressive and cost-effective, they are actually completely unsuitable for overseas high-intensity working conditions.
Why do overseas construction sites only focus on horsepower and ignore chassis, which can easily lead to losses? Firstly, heavy loads are prone to deformation and cracking. Most of the roads in African mining areas are dirt roads, muddy steep slopes, and unpaved surfaces. The vehicles are subjected to uneven loads and body twisting forces for a long time. The thin chassis and ordinary beams have no anti twisting margin, and the powerful output of high horsepower cannot be carried by the chassis bearing structure. After long-term operation, a series of faults such as beam bending, weld cracking, suspension deformation, and axle displacement may occur, ranging from frequent maintenance shutdowns to direct beam breakage and scrapping.
Secondly, high-frequency damage to the transmission system and soaring maintenance costs. High horsepower and torque, but the chassis load, transmission shaft, rear axle, and suspension configuration cannot keep up with the power output. Every time a heavy load starts, climbs, or bumps, it will cause overload impact on the transmission components. Compared to models with solid chassis, the clutch, brake pads, rear axle gears, and tire wear rate of low-end chassis and high horsepower models are doubled. Parts are difficult to purchase in remote overseas areas, and maintenance labor is expensive. The later maintenance costs far exceed the price difference of car purchase.
Finally, the vehicle has a low residual value and an extended payback period. The core value preservation of foreign trade trucks and towing heads is not horsepower parameters, but the durability of the chassis structure. A chassis with solid thickened beams, heavy-duty axles, automatic submerged arc welding technology, and reinforced suspension, capable of adapting to high-frequency heavy-duty operations for more than ten years, with stable vehicle condition and higher residual value. However, high horsepower models with shrinking chassis experience structural aging faults in just two to three years, causing the vehicle to depreciate rapidly and seriously affecting investment returns.
The correct selection logic for professional foreign trade procurement: chassis is determined by working conditions, and horsepower matches road conditions. High end chassis with thickened main beams, heavy-duty double rear axles, and reinforced suspension should be prioritized for mining, sand and gravel, and heavy-duty rough roads, and then matched with appropriate horsepower according to road conditions; Urban flat trunk transportation can be moderately matched with conventional chassis and standard horsepower. Refusing to blindly pursue high horsepower, prioritizing the verification of beam section, steel material, welding process, axle tonnage, and suspension structure is the core key to avoiding pitfalls and making steady profits in overseas truck procurement.
