What components should be checked first for abnormal noise from the power take-off of the dump truck

When the power take-off of a dump truck makes abnormal noises, many overseas fleets will directly determine that the internal gears are damaged and blindly disassemble and repair them, which not only delays construction site operations but also increases high accessory costs. The actual maintenance should follow the principle of from outside to inside, prioritize the inspection of external easily detectable components, quickly locate the source of the fault, and reduce unnecessary unpacking operations. Firstly, check the lubricating oil of the power take-off. Insufficient oil level, water ingress and emulsification of the oil, and mixing of metal impurities in the oil are the most common causes of abnormal noise. After the oil deteriorates, an effective oil film cannot be formed, and the gear and bearing rub directly, producing a continuous whistling sound. When draining the oil, observe the impurities in the oil bottom. If a large amount of metal powder appears, it indicates that the internal transmission components have been worn. Next, check the fixing bolts and connecting flanges of the power take-off. Under long-term bumpy working conditions, the connecting bolts are prone to loosening, the joint surface between the power take-off and the gearbox is offset, the gear mesh clearance is abnormal, and periodic impact noise is emitted during operation. During maintenance, recheck the torque of all fixed screws one by one, check whether the gaskets are damaged, and whether the flanges are deformed. Next, check the transmission shaft and elastic coupling sleeve from the power take-off to the hydraulic pump. The elastic buffer sleeve is aging and cracking, the spline wear clearance is too large, and there is a slight empty load noise. Once the load of the lifted cargo box increases, there will be a clicking sound. This component is easy to replace and has a low cost. It is a high-frequency consumable part on mining sites, and visual inspection is preferred for cracking and looseness. Then check the pneumatic control mechanism of the power take-off. Unstable air path pressure, cylinder leakage, and insufficient shift fork stroke can cause incomplete gear meshing and sudden rattling noise during the force take-off. Check if there is any air leakage at the trachea joint, confirm that the gear pressure meets the standard, and test whether the shift fork is fully pushed in place. The semi engaged state is prone to quickly damage the gears. Finally, make a preliminary assessment of the internal bearing and gear status. After excluding external components, if the abnormal noise persists and the power take-off housing rapidly heats up, it is likely that the bearing is corroded or the gear surface is worn. At this time, arrange for disassembly and inspection. Daily operation and maintenance suggest that drivers develop standardized operation, stop the vehicle steadily before shifting the power, prohibit forcibly shifting gears while driving, and reduce gear impact. The procurement cycle of overseas construction site accessories is long. Regular oil inspection and fastener inspection can significantly reduce the risk of sudden failure and shutdown of the power take-off, ensuring the continuous operation of the dump truck.
