Once there is a problem with the power steering during cross-border long-distance driving, it is highly likely to cause safety accidents. Many drivers wait until the steering becomes heavy and there is obvious abnormal noise before dealing with it. In fact, it is possible to determine whether the power steering oil has deteriorated through simple visual inspection and tactile sensation, without the need for professional instruments, making it suitable for quick self inspection on overseas roads. Normal power steering oil has a clear and bright color, mostly red or light yellow, smooth fluidity, and no odor. Firstly, look at the color change. If the oil turns dark brown, black, and turbid, it indicates that it has oxidized and aged, and wear impurities have been mixed into the oil, resulting in a decrease in lubrication and pressure relief capabilities; If the oil turns white and emulsified, it is a typical signal of water ingress. Cross border rainy weather and large temperature differences make it easy for water vapor to enter the oil pot through the oil seal. The emulsified oil will quickly wear down the power pump and steering gear, and if not replaced in time, it is easy to lose power halfway. Next, smell the odor and take out a small amount of oil to smell it. Normal oil has a light taste, and the appearance of a burnt smell indicates high-temperature aging. Long term climbing and frequent directional changes in mountainous areas can exacerbate the high-temperature deterioration of the oil. Then look at impurities and foam. There are obvious black precipitates and suspended particles at the bottom of the oil pot, or the oil surface continues to bubble a lot at idle speed. In addition to air intake, it also represents the degradation of oil performance. At the same time, it can be combined with the driving experience to assist in judgment. In the early stage of oil deterioration, it is not necessarily impossible to turn the direction directly. There may be slight stuttering when turning in place, buzzing noise when turning at low speeds, and the car may become heavier when it is cold or hot. Many people may mistakenly think that the power pump is damaged, but in fact, it is only due to oil failure. Here, we also need to distinguish misunderstandings and not make judgments based solely on color depth. It is normal for oil that has just been changed to slightly darken, while emulsification, burnt taste, and impurities are the core criteria for judgment. It is recommended to check the power assisted oil tank at each parking point during cross-border running. If it deteriorates, do not continue to drive for long distances. If conditions permit, replace it in a timely manner. At the same time, check whether the oil seal and oil pipe have leaked water, protect the steering system from the source, reduce the risk of breakdowns halfway, and reduce the high cost of overseas remote maintenance.
