Many low-priced trailers rely on spot welding, virtual welding, and narrow weld seams to reduce costs. In the short term, no problems can be seen, but after long-term heavy load and bumpy mountain roads, they are prone to faults such as weld cracking, beam deformation, and chassis distortion. Overseas maintenance is difficult and downtime losses are high. Mastering simple and intuitive welding process identification skills is the key to purchasing high-quality semi trailers.
Firstly, the formation of the core weld seam is the most intuitive criterion for judgment. The high-quality frame adopts full welding and continuous welding processes, with uniform and full weld beads, consistent width, smooth surface, no obvious protrusions or depressions, and good fusion degree. Regular factories continuously weld key load-bearing parts such as beams, crossbeams, and supports throughout the entire process to ensure overall structural strength. Poor quality processes are mostly intermittent spot welding and interval welding, with varying lengths and thicknesses of weld beads, and obvious signs of broken welding. Although there may seem to be a weld seam, the actual penetration depth is insufficient, only covering the surface. After heavy loading and stress, it is easy to crack from the broken point.
Focus on inspecting welding defects and avoiding process cutting and material cutting. Poor quality welding generally has four major problems: porosity, slag inclusion, undercutting, and virtual welding. The appearance of dense small pores on the surface of the weld seam is called porosity, which will reduce the structural toughness; Impurities are mixed inside the weld bead to form slag inclusions, greatly weakening the load-bearing capacity; Biting is the formation of grooves on the edge of the weld seam due to erosion, which is a fatal hazard. Pay attention to the welding reinforcement process of key stress bearing parts. The force on the semi-trailer varies greatly at different positions, and the connection between the crossbeam and the main beam, the balance shaft support, the suspension ear base, the traction bottom plate, and other positions are the highest force points on the entire vehicle. A reliable production process will thicken and weld these parts, locally reinforce them, install reinforcing plates and triangular reinforcement welds in some areas, and disperse the load-bearing pressure. The welding standards for all parts of low-quality trailers are consistent, and there is no reinforcement design for high-risk stress areas. After long-term heavy loading, passing through pits, and bending, weld cracking will occur first, causing chassis failure.
Check the welding, polishing, and anti-corrosion details to reflect the level of precision in the process. After the high-quality frame welding is completed, the weld burrs, weld beads, and sharp edges will be finely polished to ensure a smooth and stress free body. At the same time, the entire body will be sandblasted for rust removal and fully covered with anti-corrosion paint, leaving no residual rust hazards inside the weld. Small factory rough trailers basically have no polishing process, and the weld burrs are sharp, which is prone to stress fatigue. In addition, the weld position is not sprayed properly, which leads to rusting and corrosion in the later stage, gradually expanding the hidden danger of cracks.

Procurement selection does not require professional equipment, and can accurately distinguish the quality of the frame workmanship by observing the welding bead formation, stress welding seam, and polishing anti-corrosion details with the naked eye. High quality welded structures can effectively avoid high-frequency faults such as frame deformation and weld cracking, ensuring long-term heavy-duty stable operation of vehicles and reducing the maintenance costs of overseas fleets.
