Side beams are usually channel steel or bent parts. At present, channel steel is adopted by most trailers. More side beams adopt lightweight bent components when the strength requirements are not very high. Support beams run through the main beams, and most of them are W-beams nowadays. The kingpin is a vital component that connects the semi-trailer to the tractor and bears traction force, and it is mated with the fifth wheel. It is generally forged from chromium alloy structural steel. There are 50# and 90# kingpins for cargo of different tonnages. Normally, the total combined weight of a 50-ton trailer and its cargo is subject to limits: the 50# kingpin applies to loads under 50 tons, while the 90# kingpin is used for loads over 50 tons with corresponding insurance coverage for the 90# specification.
